While solar pv is a great boon for many in developing countries, concentrated solar energy sometimes provide simpler, more accessible access to clean energy for many uses.

The largest energy demand in many communities is for producing heat, for example for cooking or water sterilization. Using electricity, if available, is costly and risks regular blackouts and wood contributes to deforestation and indoor air pollution.

Using concentrated solar power directly, does not requre expensive and complex components and is ideal for many developing communities energy needs.

This video from GoSol demonstrates some of the possibilities for using concentrated solar power in pilot programs in Kenya.
